Deep Vein Thrombosis

DVT affects individuals who are seated in a confined space for extended periods of time.

To minimise the risk, it is recommended that both drivers and passengers take the following precautions:-

  • Where practical stop and take a break at least once every two hours
  • Get out of the vehicle, walk around, exercise the lower legs and take in fresh air
  • Drink plenty of water, to stay hydrated
  • Wear loose fitting clothing

Symptoms of DVT may include:-

  • Swelling of the legs
  • Redness and an increased temperature of the leg
  • Noticeable pain

If a person suspects they may have DVT, medical assistance should be sought.
