Driver classification

How well do you know your drivers? Do you have any idea how competent they are? Do you know what training they might have received before they were hired?

A driver classification can help you.

Determine your driver profile and match this to the accident and claims information for your fleet. This process involves five practical steps:

Process Action
Step 1 Produce an age profile of your drivers.
Step 2 Produce a driver's list of time served with the company and driver's experience profile and cross check with age. Young drivers will not have years of experience of driving vehicles, but older drivers may also have limited experience.
Step 3 Group drivers into occupation, vehicle types driven and mileage categories, identifying high mileage drivers who are likely to be at highest risk.
  • Company car drivers (owned, leased, PCP etc)
  • Drivers using their private cars on company business (privately owned and cash for car)
  • Occasional drivers for pool cars and hire cars
  • Commercial drivers
  • Truck drivers
  • Coach drivers
  • Minibus drivers
  • Specialist drivers (tractor, Fork Lift Truck, road sweepers etc)
Step 4 Categorise drivers into full-time, part-time and contract / agency drivers (all vehicle types).
Step 5 Analyse your accidents by driver's age, cause, damage or injury type, cost and worst case potential.
