Driver training solutions

As a central part of the Roadsense programme, Norwich Union has negotiated exclusive access to a menu of RAC Risk Management services at preferential rates. RAC Risk Management will help you develop a clear strategy to help you to prevent accidents, minimise losses and meet your road related, health and safety obligations.

Risk solutions that suit you

Whatever stage your company is at in the risk management process, RAC has the solution to meet your company's specific requirements. Aimed at both managers and drivers, our programmes will help you develop an ongoing risk management strategy that will help avoid accidents and may contribute towards reducing the cost of running your fleet.

Training on the Road

On the road sessions focussing on safety and economy - 1/2 day, theory and practical 1-2-1 session.

In-vehicle practical sessions are designed to assess, review and help you to improve safety and fuel economy. At the end of a session, the driver will have been trained to identify behaviours and practices that could lead to loss, injury and excessive fuel consumption. A RAC driver training expert conducts the interactive sessions, on a one-to-one basis in the driver's own car, on roads and locations familiar to them. The trainer will help the driver develop visual and mental strategies required to improve risk perception and decision-making processes. As well as introducing 'best practice' coaching appropriate to all sources of identified risk, the trainer will reinforce the driver's strengths and determine areas where further support and training may be necessary.

At the end of each session, the trainer will provide the driver with a Risk Profile that will highlight the strengths and risk factors identified during the drive, noting the progress made and pinpoint areas that require further attention. Time will then be allocated for feedback and discussion.

Safety & Economy seminar>

½ day interactive safety and economy seminar for up to 25 delegates

Interactive seminars, which provide an insight into the root causes of road accidents, areas of risk and the action needed to avoid them. Designed to be both educational and enjoyable - the seminars explore individual attitudes to driving, as well as looking at the risks people take on the roads. Thought-provoking discussions, syndicate sessions and presentations will help challenge the way attendees think about driving.

The seminar lasts approximately 3 hours and uses real life case studies. It provides a forum for individuals to discuss their own experiences and attitude to risk taking behaviour.

On-Line Risk Assessment

The on-line risk assessment module enables companies to identify 'high risk' drivers who are more likely to be involved in a crash. This is achieved in two ways:

  1. Driver profiling
  2. Competency based assessment

The 'profile' enables companies to benchmark their drivers against each other as well as measure them against established best practise guidelines published by government agencies, e.g. miles driven and experience.

The 'competency' based assessment measures an individual drivers attitude, knowledge, behaviour and hazard recognition skills. Once the on-line risk assessment is completed, the contact at your company will receive an email detailing the percentage score achieved. For drivers perceived as 'higher' risk, risk reduction measures can be discussed as to how to improve the risk potential of the individual concerned.

Taken together, the results of the driver profiling and the competency based assessment enable a company to target training and risk reduction activity where it is most required.
